Gunmen shot a farmer and abducted his wife in Akure, Ondo State; police launch operations to rescue victims and apprehend suspects

The Nigeria Police Force in Ondo State has confirmed that gunmen shot a farmer and abducted his wife on Wednesday night in Akure, the state capital.

The state command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, stated that the incident occurred at approximately 8:45 p.m. along Oda Road in the Isagba Community.

“The command strongly condemns the criminal act carried out by suspected kidnappers who invaded the residence of one Adesida Daniel, a tomato farmer. During the incident, the victim sustained a gunshot injury to his right hand while attempting to resist the assailants who had reportedly abducted his wife,” Jimoh said.

Police operatives were quickly mobilised to the scene, ensuring that the injured farmer received medical attention at the Police Clinic and securing the area.

The Commissioner of Police has directed intensified patrols, bush-combing operations, and intelligence gathering in the affected and neighbouring communities to apprehend the suspects.

“The command assures residents that no effort will be spared in tracking down the perpetrators and bringing them to justice. Members of the public are urged to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious movements or individuals to the nearest police station,” Jimoh added.

The attack highlights ongoing security concerns in Ondo State, where cases of kidnapping and assaults on farmers have been reported in rural areas and farming communities.
