Alex Iwobi says his uncle Jay-Jay Okocha advised him to play freely and fearlessly, shaping his football career

Fulham attacking midfielder, Alex Iwobi, has disclosed that the most influential advice in his career came from his uncle, Nigerian football legend Jay-Jay Okocha.

The 29-year-old explained in a recent interview on The High Performance Podcast that Okocha encouraged him to play with freedom and without fear on the pitch.

“He said to me, express yourself. Don’t be afraid to express yourself. I got it from my uncle, Jay-Jay Okocha,” Iwobi said. “I literally just watched how he lived his life. I feel lucky he is my uncle. I used to see him both off the pitch as well as on the pitch.”

Iwobi, who previously played for Arsenal, credited this guidance for instilling confidence and creativity in his playing style, helping him excel in both domestic and international competitions.
