The Arne Slot Osimhen injury admission came after Liverpool sealed a 4-1 aggregate win to progress to the quarter-finals, with goals from Dominik Szoboszlai, Hugo Ekitike, Ryan Gravenberch and Mohamed Salah securing a dominant second-leg performance at Anfield.

Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen suffered an arm injury early in the match following a challenge involving Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté.

The Nigerian forward continued until half-time before being substituted in the second period.

Speaking after the match, Slot acknowledged Osimhen’s influence on the opposition’s attacking structure, suggesting the injury disrupted Galatasaray’s rhythm in a decisive way.

“Osimhen is an incredible player for them,” Slot said.

“Yeah, [the injury] worked for us, but when you look at the first 10 minutes and how the team played with him, I thought he would play the full 90 because the rest of the team plays so well off him.”

Liverpool had taken a 1-0 lead in the first half through Szoboszlai before turning on the style after the break to seal a comfortable victory.

Osimhen’s presence had initially caused problems for Liverpool’s defence in the opening stages, but his withdrawal allowed the hosts to gain greater control of the contest.
