Alex Iwobi criticises Super Eagles kit design, preferring the old Nike jersey over Nigeria’s new 2026 release

Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi expressed mixed feelings about Nigeria’s new national team kit on Friday, 2026, during a podcast appearance, revealing that he prefers the previous design over the latest Nike release unveiled in late March.

The Fulham midfielder made the remarks on the “Alexander Yaa Digg” podcast, where he reviewed the new Super Eagles kit collection that has already sparked widespread debate among supporters and football enthusiasts across social media platforms.

Nike’s latest Nigeria collection features a light green home jersey with darker side panels, alongside a white away shirt designed with a bold green flame-inspired pattern.

The kits were officially introduced ahead of the international break and have already been used in recent friendly matches.

Iwobi, known for his candid personality, described the training gear in vivid terms, calling the bright green design striking and unusual.

He noted that the colour scheme stood out significantly compared to previous editions.

The midfielder, however, admitted a clear preference for the older design when asked to compare both kits.

He said he hoped the new strip would still bring good fortune to the national team despite his personal reservations.
