Osimhen derby fitness doubt grows as Galatasaray striker races against time to recover ahead of crucial Fenerbahçe clash

Osimhen fitness doubt comes after the striker returned to team training following a month-long spell on the sidelines due to an arm injury, but was still left out of the matchday squad in Galatasaray’s recent league fixture against Gençlerbirliği.

Galatasaray head coach Okan Buruk confirmed that Osimhen had participated in parts of training sessions but struggled with fatigue and was not considered ready for competitive action.

“He experienced fatigue after these sessions,” Buruk said, adding that the medical and coaching staff opted for a cautious recovery approach.

Despite Galatasaray securing a crucial victory to maintain their lead at the top of the table, attention quickly shifted to Osimhen’s condition ahead of the derby, which could play a decisive role in the title race.

The fitness doubt was further highlighted by Turkish journalist Kutlu Akpınar, who noted that the striker is unlikely to be fully match-fit even if he features.

“We expect Osimhen to get some playing time in the derby, but he won’t be 100 per cent ready,” he said, adding that his condition will be assessed closer to match day.

Osimhen is expected to continue individual training programmes as Galatasaray carefully manage his recovery to avoid setbacks during the critical stage of the season.

Coach Buruk has also suggested a gradual return for the striker, indicating that his minutes will be closely monitored in upcoming fixtures, including domestic cup action.
