The teenager, born in Italy to Nigerian parents, has already represented Italy at multiple youth levels, including the Under-19 and Under-21 teams, where he has contributed goals and consistent performances.

Ekhator has made 11 appearances for Italy’s U-19 side, scoring twice, while also netting twice in six outings for the U-21 team, underlining his growing reputation as a promising attacking talent.

However, the forward has now suggested he is considering a closer connection with his Nigerian heritage and may travel to Nigeria during the summer period as part of that process.

“I would like to go there (Nigeria), maybe this summer. They have told me something about it, about when they came here to work. We are all happy together,” he told Vivo Azzurro TV.

A switch in international allegiance would require approval from FIFA, as players who have represented one country at youth level must undergo formal clearance before featuring for another nation at senior level.

The development will be closely monitored by Nigeria’s football authorities, with the possibility of Ekhator joining a growing pool of diaspora talents eligible for the Super Eagles setup.
