Hansi Flick contract extension confirmed as the Barcelona coach signs a new deal after another La Liga triumph

Hansi Flick has confirmed signing a new contract extension with FC Barcelona, committing his future to the Catalan giants after guiding the club to a second consecutive La Liga title.

The 61-year-old German manager announced on Tuesday that he had agreed a new two-year deal with an option for a further season.

The Hansi Flick contract extension comes only days after Barcelona secured the Spanish league title with a commanding 2-0 victory over arch-rivals Real Madrid CF at Camp Nou on Sunday.

“I am very happy and what I have achieved gives me confidence to continue one or two more years,” Flick said during a press conference ahead of Barcelona’s league clash against Deportivo Alavés.

“Many coaches would be happy to stay three or four years, but I think at Barca it is better to limit it.”

“For now, I am under contract until 2028, and if everything goes well, we will extend it. It has been a good agreement for both parties. I have seen that I am in the right place.”

Flick revealed that his immediate objective after signing the new deal was to help Barcelona surpass the 100-point mark in La Liga this season.

“Our goal is to reach 100 points, and to do so we have to win all three matches,” he said.

“We have celebrated the title a lot but now we can play well.”

Since arriving at Barcelona in the summer of 2024, Flick has overseen a remarkable period of success, winning two La Liga titles, one Copa del Rey and two Spanish Super Cups.

However, the UEFA Champions League remains the only major trophy missing from his Barcelona achievements so far.

Barcelona were eliminated by Atlético Madrid in this season’s quarter-finals after reaching the semi-finals the previous campaign, where they lost 7-6 on aggregate to Inter Milan.

“Everyone dreams of the Champions League. We have tried and we will keep trying,” Flick stated.

“I am grateful for the trust to continue.”

Before taking charge at Barcelona, Flick worked as assistant to Joachim Löw during Germany’s victorious 2014 FIFA World Cup campaign.

He later enjoyed a glittering managerial spell at FC Bayern Munich between 2019 and 2021, winning multiple trophies including the UEFA Champions League in 2020.

Flick also endured a difficult spell as Germany national team coach before becoming the first manager to be dismissed from the role.

Barcelona appointed him in 2024 to replace Xavi Hernández, and despite the club’s financial constraints, he has restored domestic dominance and stability on the pitch.
