Oyo schools reopening begins Monday after the state deployed more security personnel following attacks in Oriire LGA

The Oyo State Government on Friday directed the reopening of schools in Oriire Local Government Area and neighbouring councils from Monday after deploying additional security personnel to communities affected by recent attacks in the state.

The affected local government areas include Oriire, Oyo East, Surulere and Olorunsogo, where authorities had earlier ordered the temporary closure of schools following a deadly attack in Ahoro-Esinle community.

The Executive Chairman of the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, Mr Nureni Adeniran, announced the decision in a statement issued in Ibadan after a comprehensive security review conducted by the state government and security agencies.

The closure order was issued after gunmen attacked schools in Ahoro-Esinle community in Oriire Local Government Area, killing a teacher and abducting several students in a disturbing incident that heightened fears among residents and parents.

Adeniran said the Oyo schools reopening followed strengthened surveillance and improved security measures across the affected areas to guarantee the safety of pupils, teachers and other school workers.

According to Adeniran, the deployment of additional security operatives under the directive of the Commissioner of Police has significantly reinforced security architecture within the affected axis.

“The safety of pupils and teachers remains a top priority of the state government,” Adeniran said.

“Learning activities can now resume without fear, as the government continues to monitor the situation closely in partnership with local authorities and community stakeholders.”

The Oyo schools reopening has brought cautious relief to many parents and residents who had expressed anxiety over the safety of children in the affected communities after the shocking attack.

Adeniran urged parents and guardians to remain calm and avoid circulating unverified information capable of escalating tension within the communities.
