Security tight in Osogbo as 150 delegates elect the Accord Party primary candidate after Governor Adeleke’s defection

One hundred and fifty accredited delegates of the Accord Party convened at the Oasis Event Centre in Osogbo on Wednesday to elect the party’s governorship candidate, hours after Governor Ademola Adeleke formally joined the party.

Operatives of the Department of State Services, the Nigeria Police and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps maintained strict security checks at the venue to ensure order throughout the Accord Party primary.

A dedicated section inside the hall was assigned to the 150 delegates, while observers and journalists occupied designated areas.

Many individuals in the observers’ corner were members of the Peoples Democratic Party and aides of Governor Adeleke, who defected to the Accord Party on Tuesday night ahead of the 2026 governorship race.

Osun State Chairman of the Accord Party, Pastor Victor Akande, confirmed that the delegate list had been finalised and that the selection process would proceed as planned.

Akande said the party was determined to produce a strong candidate capable of leading a decisive campaign.

The heightened atmosphere reflected the significance of the Accord Party primary, coming less than a day after Adeleke’s dramatic switch, which has reshaped political expectations in the state.
