ADC Edo 2027 candidates list unveiled as Matthew Iduoriyekemwen leads senatorial nominees ahead of general elections

The African Democratic Congress on Friday announced a broad slate of candidates for the 2027 general elections in Edo State, Nigeria, with former Majority Leader of the Edo State House of Assembly, Matthew Iduoriyekemwen, emerging as the party’s flag bearer for the Edo South Senatorial District.

The announcement was made by the Chairman of the ADC electoral committee, Ebiowei Olomu, who confirmed that a total of 36 candidates were selected across senatorial, House of Representatives and State Assembly positions following the party’s primary process.

The ADC Edo 2027 candidates list includes three senatorial nominees, nine House of Representatives candidates and 24 House of Assembly aspirants, with several emerging through consensus arrangements described by party officials as part of efforts to promote internal unity.

According to Olomu, Iduoriyekemwen secured the Edo South senatorial ticket on consensus, polling 23,174 votes, while Mrs Herbarta Okonufua emerged as the consensus candidate for Edo Central Senatorial District with 4,898 votes. Prince Musa Jerry Braimo clinched the Edo North ticket with 14,992 votes.

For the House of Representatives, candidates were also selected across multiple federal constituencies. In Egor/Ikpoba-Okha, Ekundayo Ukponwan emerged with 5,595 votes, while Louis Ejedeavwe Ebodaghe secured the Esan Central/Esan West/Igueben ticket with 3,531 votes.

Other nominees include Ighalo Paulson Odion for Esan North-East/Esan South-East, Bright Egharevba for Orhionmwon/Uhunmwonde, Braimah Yakubu for Etsako Federal Constituency, Shedrach Idugbai for Owan Federal Constituency, Osazemen Ehigie Uzamere for Ovia Federal Constituency, Ateri Nelson Kayode for Akoko-Edo Federal Constituency and Osamwonyi Williams Irowa for Oredo Federal Constituency.

Olomu urged aggrieved aspirants to channel their complaints to the party’s appeal committee, stressing that the ADC remains committed to internal democracy and unity ahead of the 2027 elections. He also criticised Nigeria’s economic and security challenges, calling for stronger opposition collaboration to unseat the ruling establishment.

Speaking after his emergence, Iduoriyekemwen expressed gratitude to the party for the opportunity, insisting that his deep grassroots experience gives him a strong understanding of Edo South politics.

“I am happy that ADC has given me the opportunity to be its candidate for the 2027 senatorial election. There is no politician in Edo South that knows the zone more than me. I am a grassroots politician,” he said.

The development signals an early start to political mobilisation in Edo State, as parties position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
