Africa Cup of Nations Premier League clash set to sideline key players, with top teams losing stars during festive fixtures from Dec 2025 to Jan 2026

The Africa Cup of Nations Premier League clash is set to create major disruption for English clubs as the tournament runs from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026, in Morocco.

The overlap with the Premier League’s congested festive period means teams could lose players for up to six or seven league games, plus potential cup ties, if their national sides progress deep into the competition.

An estimated 47 to 51 Premier League stars are expected to feature for 24 African nations.

Certain teams will feel the impact more heavily, particularly those with multiple key players called up.

Sunderland, for instance, will be without Chemsdine Talbi (Morocco), Habib Diarra (Senegal), Reinildo (Mozambique), Simon Adingra (Ivory Coast), Bertrand Traore (Burkina Faso), Arthur Masuaku and Noah Sadiki (DR Congo).

Wolves face departures including Emmanuel Agbadou (Ivory Coast), Jackson Tchatchoua (Cameroon), Marshall Munetsi and Tawanda Chirewa (Zimbabwe), and Tolu Arokodare (Nigeria).

Burnley will miss Lyle Foster (South Africa), Axel Tuanzebe (DR Congo), and Hannibal Mejbri (Tunisia).

Other notable absences across the league include Ismaila Sarr (Senegal) and Christantus Uche (Nigeria) for Crystal Palace, Ibrahim Sangare (Ivory Coast) and Ola Aina (Nigeria) for Nottingham Forest, Mohamed Salah (Egypt) for Liverpool, Omar Marmoush (Egypt) for Manchester City, and Samuel Chukwueze (Nigeria) for Fulham.

Manchester United and Tottenham will also contend with missing stars such as Bryan Mbeumo (Cameroon), Amad Diallo (Ivory Coast), Noussair Mazraoui (Morocco), Yves Bissouma (Mali), and Pape Mateta (Ivory Coast).

This anticipated player shortage will force managers to rethink squad rotation strategies during one of the Premier League’s busiest periods.
