Aisha Yesufu NDC move sparks political attention as the activist exits ADC and declares FCT senatorial ambition

Activist and prominent supporter of Peter Obi, Aisha Yesufu, has announced her resignation from the African Democratic Congress and declared her decision to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress.

Aisha Yesufu disclosed the development on Wednesday through a statement posted on her X account, linking the decision to her continued support for Peter Obi and what she described as the need to back a political movement capable of transforming Nigeria’s future.

“The next couple of days will define the future of this nation,” she wrote.

The activist stated that her political choices have consistently been shaped by her commitment to the ideals represented by Peter Obi.

“This deeper understanding is why I resigned from the African Democratic Congress to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress as I follow the leadership of His Excellency Peter Obi, who today embodies the hope and aspiration of a Nigeria that works,” she added.

The Aisha Yesufu NDC move has already generated fresh political conversations ahead of future electoral alignments across the country.

Aisha Yesufu explained that her earlier decision to join the ADC was also influenced by her support for Peter Obi, noting that her latest defection was aimed at remaining faithful to that political commitment.

“When I give my word, I keep it. My decision to support HE Peter Obi first led me to the ADC. To continue to honour the promise, I am joining the NDC,” she stated.

Beyond her party switch, the activist also unveiled plans to contest for the senatorial seat representing the Federal Capital Territory under the platform of the NDC.

“This time, I am joining the NDC not just as a member but as one running for the FCT Senatorial seat,” she said.

Aisha Yesufu further disclosed that she formally concluded all responsibilities within the ADC before announcing her departure.

Reflecting on her time in the party, she described the experience as rewarding and praised members she worked with across different organisational levels.

The activist revealed that she previously served as sub-committee chair, deputy committee chair and secretary within the ADC structure.
