Former Arsenal striker Alan Smith has backed Arsenal Football Club to win the Premier League title, dismissing recent doubts about the team’s mentality as overreaction following a narrow defeat.

Alan Smith spoke after Arsenal’s lead at the top of the table was reduced to four points following a 3–2 loss to Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium last weekend.

The defeat sparked renewed debate among pundits and supporters over whether Mikel Arteta’s side possess the mental strength required to sustain a title challenge to the end of the season.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Smith described the setback as part of a long campaign rather than a decisive moment in the race.

He said Arsenal’s overall quality remains unmatched in the division.

“They have the best squad in the league, there’s no doubt about that,” Smith said.

“I think Arteta might just need to make some small changes to his tactics and maybe bring in some new players.”

Arsenal have been among the most consistent sides in the Premier League this season, although defeats in high-profile matches have occasionally slowed their momentum.

Attention now turns briefly to European action, with Arsenal set to face Kairat Almaty on Wednesday in their final UEFA Champions League group-stage fixture.

The club will then return to domestic competition with a league trip to Leeds United this weekend.
