Alex Iwobi Chukwueze bond boosts Fulham as Iwobi vouches for teammate’s work ethic after €25m loan move from AC Milan

Alex Iwobi Chukwueze is the latest Nigerian duo making headlines at Fulham, with Iwobi revealing that he had a hand in influencing coach Marco Silva’s decision to bring Samuel Chukwueze to Craven Cottage.

Chukwueze joined Fulham from AC Milan on a season-long loan on transfer deadline day.

The deal includes a non-mandatory option to buy, with the total package potentially exceeding €25 million, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Speaking to Football Temple, Iwobi shared how Fulham’s coach sought his opinion on Chukwueze  not as a player, but as a person.

“Yes, he (Marco Silva) asked me about what he (Chukwueze) is like as a person because he knows who he is as a player.
As a player, he is the type who would work hard,” Iwobi explained.

The Fulham midfielder went on to highlight his excitement about reuniting with his Super Eagles teammate and fellow Nigerian Calvin Bassey at the club.

“I’m excited because we know the quality Samuel has. He wants to get a lot of playing time, and as a brother, I’m just going to give him the confidence to go and express himself and be the player that he is.”

With three Nigerians now in Fulham’s squad, Iwobi believes the team can push for European qualification this season.

“We recall our last season, and hopefully we can be ambitious to do that again, especially with the additions that we got to the team.
We have the ability to play in Europe, so hopefully we can achieve that,” Iwobi said.

Chukwueze joined AC Milan from Villarreal in 2023 but struggled for game time at San Siro.

Over two seasons, he made 26 Serie A appearances, with only nine starts, scoring three goals and providing two assists.

His 918 total minutes in Serie A reflect a tough campaign, and a fresh start in the Premier League could offer the winger the consistency he craves.

This season, he played just one match for Milan — a 26-minute cameo in their league opener against Cremonese.
