The 24-year-old hit back at rumours questioning his physical readiness, describing them as “baseless media talk.”

Boniface completed the deadline day move after passing a medical, ending a tense transfer window that saw a proposed switch to AC Milan collapse.

He was unveiled by Bremen earlier this week and is expected to play a key role in their Bundesliga campaign.

“Who’s questioning my fitness? If I wasn’t fully fit, I’d be in a hospital bed, not sitting here talking to you,” Boniface told reporters during his presentation.

“Whatever the media say, that’s their business. If my body isn’t 100%, I won’t be here talking to you.”

Boniface had an impressive spell at Bayer Leverkusen, contributing 32 goals and 12 assists since his move from Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise in 2023.

He played a crucial role in Leverkusen’s historic unbeaten Bundesliga title win during the 2023/24 season.

His switch to Bremen was part of the club’s effort to bolster their attack, and the Nigerian forward is expected to be a central figure in their strategy this season.

Despite his club form, Boniface has yet to score in 13 appearances for the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

His omission from the squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa raised eyebrows.

Nigeria’s head coach Eric Chelle left the striker out of the list, fueling speculation over Boniface’s condition. However, the player’s strong rebuttal and clean medical suggest otherwise.

Werder Bremen will hope Boniface’s powerful presence and goal-scoring instinct bring consistency to their forward line. With his proven Bundesliga track record, the club views the loan as a low-risk, high-reward move.
