The England captain is expected to open discussions on a new deal after scoring 146 goals in 147 appearances for the Bundesliga champions
Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane has confirmed that talks over a new contract with the Bundesliga champions are expected to begin this week or next week, with the England captain entering the final year of his existing deal.
Kane, 33, disclosed the development at a media event in Munich on Monday, August 17, 2026, saying discussions had been delayed until after his post-World Cup holiday but that the time was now right for both sides to begin negotiations.
“I’m not sure exactly when, but they’ll start this week or next week,” Kane told reporters.
“We’re calm, they’re calm with the situation. Obviously now’s the time to start talking, because with only a year left it’s important.”
The Harry Kane Bayern contract talks could determine whether the prolific striker extends his stay beyond 2027, with German media reports suggesting a new agreement could keep him at the club until at least 2029.
Kane joined Bayern from Tottenham Hotspur in 2023 on a four-year contract and has since established himself as one of the most productive forwards in European football.
The England captain has scored 146 goals in 147 appearances in all competitions for Bayern, helping the club win two Bundesliga titles and the German Cup.
He has also played a key role in Bayern’s Champions League campaigns, with the German giants reaching the semi-finals twice during his three seasons at the club.
Bayern officials have repeatedly expressed their desire to retain Kane beyond the end of his current agreement, with club figures previously describing the England international as one of the club’s best signings.
Kane’s exceptional form has also placed him firmly in the conversation for the Ballon d’Or.
Germany legend Lothar Matthaeus backed the Bayern forward for the prestigious individual award on Tuesday, praising the consistency of his performances throughout the previous campaign.
Kane scored 61 goals in 51 matches last season, underlining the remarkable attacking output that has made him central to Bayern’s plans.
“He delivered outstanding performances and, in my opinion, didn’t have a single weak spell,” Matthaeus wrote in his column for Sky Germany.
The praise comes as Kane prepares for another competitive campaign with Bayern, with the club’s first major fixture of the new season approaching.
Bayern will face Borussia Dortmund in the German Supercup on Saturday, providing Kane and his teammates with an early opportunity to begin the campaign with silverware.
For Bayern, securing Kane’s long-term future would preserve the services of a forward who has already delivered an extraordinary return since arriving from north London.
For Kane, meanwhile, the coming negotiations could offer an opportunity to extend a highly successful chapter of his career in Germany, where his goals have quickly established him among Bayern’s leading modern forwards.
