2027 contract uncertainty grows as Vinícius Jr, Harry Kane and other elite footballers enter the final year of their deals

Football’s next transfer cycle is already beginning to take shape as several of the game’s biggest names enter the final year of their contracts, placing Europe’s leading clubs under growing pressure to secure fresh agreements or risk losing prized assets on free transfers in 2027.

Both remain central to their clubs’ ambitions, yet uncertainty surrounding their contracts has fuelled speculation across Europe.

Vinícius Júnior’s situation has attracted particular attention following reports linking the Brazil international with interest from Arsenal.

Although Real Madrid have consistently regarded the 26-year-old as one of the club’s cornerstone players, no official announcement on a contract extension has been made, leaving supporters and rivals closely monitoring developments.

Harry Kane is also approaching a decisive period. The England captain has been linked with Barcelona in recent months, but the 33-year-old has publicly indicated that he is settled at Bayern Munich and would welcome talks over extending his stay.

“I am very happy here. We will speak about my future at the right time,” Kane has said previously when asked about his contract.

Manchester City midfielder Rodri is another player entering 2027 contract uncertainty.

Reports have connected the reigning Ballon d’Or winner with Real Madrid, although the Spain international has maintained that discussions over his future will take place when the timing is appropriate.

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk, Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes and defender Lisandro Martínez are also among the prominent names whose contracts expire in 2027.

Fernandes remains a key figure in Micheal Carrick’s plans at Old Trafford, while Martínez’s long-term fitness record could become an important factor in any negotiations.

Elsewhere, Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, Atlético Madrid midfielder Marcos Llorente, Inter Milan defender Federico Dimarco, Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Fabián Ruiz and AC Milan winger Christian Pulisic are all entering the final year of their current agreements.

The growing contract uncertainty reflects a familiar challenge for Europe’s elite clubs. Modern football increasingly rewards teams that resolve contract situations well before expiry, reducing the risk of losing world-class talent without receiving a transfer fee.

Clubs often begin formal negotiations 12 to 18 months before contracts end, particularly for players considered central to long-term sporting projects.
