Anambra guest house demolition follows raid uncovering drugs, firearm and prostitution in Awka, with multiple suspects arrested

The Anambra State Government has carried out the Anambra guest house demolition of Airtight Guest House and Bar in Okpuno, Awka South Local Government Area, after security operatives uncovered drugs, a firearm and evidence of prostitution at the premises.

The demolition, executed on Saturday, followed a night raid by the state’s Agunaechemba security outfit led by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Community Security, Ken Emeakayi.

Emeakayi said the action was taken under the provisions of the Anambra Homeland Security Law, which empowers authorities to seize or demolish properties linked to criminal activities.

During the operation, operatives recovered substances including Tramadol, Indian hemp, nitrous oxide and Rohypnol, alongside a locally made single-barrel gun.

“This serves as a warning to property owners to verify the identity and activities of occupants before leasing their property,” Emeakayi said, describing the enforcement as a decisive crackdown on criminal hideouts.

Authorities also reported evidence suggesting the facility was being used for prostitution, in violation of state security regulations.

The manager of the guest house, Paul Chike, told officials he was overseeing the property on behalf of the owner and claimed efforts had been made to restrict illicit activities.

He further alleged that the firearm recovered was abandoned by a guest.

Security operatives arrested the manager, a supervisor, a storekeeper and a bar attendant during the raid. About 20 suspected prostitutes and 18 male patrons were also apprehended.

The state government reiterated its commitment to enforcing security laws and warned that any property found to be aiding criminal activities would face similar sanctions.
