The decision was reached after a meeting of the Ward Executive Committee held on May 26, 2026, where party officials reviewed what they described as prolonged actions detrimental to the unity and electoral strength of the APC in the area.

In a suspension letter signed by the ward Chairman, Shaibu Mohammed, and Secretary, Kabiru Mohammed, alongside other executives, the party accused the senator of holding discussions with opposition figures and engaging in activities allegedly aimed at leaving the APC.

The letter stated that the APC suspends Jibrin Echocho following concerns over what party leaders described as disappointing conduct during internal consultations and political processes within the ruling party.

Ward executives further alleged that the senator’s actions were connected to efforts to actualise a “self-serving third-term agenda,” which they claimed had generated tension among stakeholders in Kogi East.

According to party officials, Senator Jibrin Isah Echocho consistently acted against the interests of the APC despite benefiting from the party’s platform for two terms in office.

The ward leadership also accused the senator of failing to deliver his polling unit during the 2019 and 2023 governorship elections and providing weak political leadership during crucial electoral contests in the state.

Speaking after the announcement, APC chieftain Mallam Nasiru Musa described the suspension as a courageous and necessary move aimed at protecting party discipline and restoring confidence among loyal members.

Mallam Nasiru Musa alleged that the senator had prioritised personal ambition over public service, adding that many party supporters had become frustrated over what they viewed as poor representation in the district.

The APC suspends Jibrin Echocho development has reportedly generated mixed reactions across Kogi East, with some stakeholders commending the ward executives for taking decisive action while others await the senator’s response.
