Arsenal Bruno Guimaraes deal advances as the Gunners agree a reported £77m fee with Newcastle United for the Brazilian midfielder

Arsenal have reportedly reached an agreement with Newcastle United over a €90 million (£77 million) deal to sign Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, in what could become one of the biggest transfers of the summer window.

Reports from France indicate that the Premier League champions had previously seen bids of £55 million and £70 million rejected by Newcastle before returning with an improved offer that has moved negotiations closer to completion.

The Arsenal Bruno Guimaraes deal is now at an advanced stage, with both clubs said to be discussing additional details, including potential bonuses and agent-related payments.

According to French publication L’Équipe, Arsenal and Newcastle have agreed on the initial transfer fee, with a complete agreement expected in the coming days.

Guimaraes has already reached an understanding on personal terms with Arsenal and is reportedly keen on joining manager Mikel Arteta’s squad as the club prepares for another Champions League campaign.

The 28-year-old midfielder is said to be seeking a new challenge after Newcastle missed out on European football following a disappointing league finish last season.

Newcastle ended the previous Premier League campaign in 12th position, meaning they will not compete in continental competitions in the upcoming season, a factor believed to have influenced Guimaraes’ desire for a move.

The midfielder’s situation has also been affected by the recent departure of Newcastle manager Eddie Howe, which has added further uncertainty around the club’s plans.

Guimaraes joined Newcastle from French side Lyon and has developed into one of the Premier League’s most influential midfielders, becoming a key figure for both club and country.

Lyon are also expected to benefit financially from the transfer, with the French club set to receive more than €8 million (£6.8 million) due to a 20 per cent sell-on clause included in the agreement that took Guimaraes to Newcastle.

Reports also suggest that Guimaraes has asked Newcastle to delay his return to their pre-season training camp in La Manga, fuelling speculation that the transfer could be completed soon.
