Arsenal Sign Illan Meslier as the former Leeds goalkeeper completes his free transfer move to strengthen Mikel Arteta’s squad

Arsenal have completed the signing of former Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier as a free agent, making him manager Mikel Arteta’s second addition of the summer transfer window.

The Premier League champions confirmed the arrival of the French goalkeeper after Meslier completed his medical examination and signed his contract with the club in London on Tuesday, 7 July 2026.

Arsenal Sign Illan Meslier as part of their preparations for the new season, with the 26-year-old expected to provide increased competition for current first-choice goalkeeper David Raya and summer signing Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Meslier arrives at the Emirates Stadium with significant Premier League experience after spending several seasons at Leeds United, where he established himself as one of the division’s youngest regular goalkeepers following his move from French side Lorient.

Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the move, stating on X that Meslier’s medical had been completed and the agreement had been finalised.

“Illan Meslier to Arsenal, here we go! Medical already done and deal sealed with former Leeds United goalkeeper,” Romano wrote.

“Contract also signed after medical done in London on Tuesday. Meslier said yes to the Arsenal project.”

The signing reflects Arteta’s continued effort to build squad depth as Arsenal prepare to defend their Premier League title and compete across multiple competitions.

Meslier becomes Arsenal’s second summer signing after the club made Piero Hincapié’s loan move from Bayer Leverkusen permanent, adding further quality to the squad ahead of the upcoming campaign.
