Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has explained why Arsenal Won’t Sign Vinícius Jr, despite the Premier League club’s reported interest in the Real Madrid forward.

The England football pundit said he was not surprised that Vinícius Jr appears likely to remain at the Santiago Bernabéu, with Real Madrid confident the Brazilian winger will extend his contract beyond his current deal, which has 12 months remaining.

Arsenal had reportedly been monitoring the 26-year-old’s situation as they looked to strengthen their attacking options.

However, Neville believes the appeal and history of Real Madrid remain a significant barrier for English clubs hoping to secure elite talent.

“It would’ve been a spectacular signing, but I’m not surprised he would stay in Madrid,” Neville told Sky Sports.

The former defender said that while the Premier League remains one of the strongest competitions in world football, English clubs often struggle to compete with Real Madrid and Barcelona when pursuing the biggest names in the game.

“We all want great players in the Premier League, but my view on it is that it’s been at its best since it began through the best managers being in the Premier League. Then, the best teams tend to follow,” Neville said.

Neville added that attracting leading managers has played a bigger role in the league’s growth than simply signing individual superstars.

“I’m more interested in the best managers coming to the Premier League than the players. We very rarely beat Barcelona and Real Madrid to the top players in the world,” he said.

Vinícius Jr has developed into one of Real Madrid’s most influential players since joining the club from Flamengo in 2018.

The Brazilian forward has played a key role in Madrid’s domestic and European successes, including their Champions League triumphs.

With Real Madrid determined to retain one of their most valuable assets, Arsenal may now have to explore alternative options as they continue planning for future seasons.
