Chelsea strikers exit talks intensify as Danny Welbeck’s arrival could lead to player sales or loan moves under Xabi Alonso

Chelsea’s attacking options could undergo major changes this summer after veteran forward Danny Welbeck agreed to join the club, with as many as three strikers facing possible departures from Stamford Bridge.

Welbeck, 35, is expected to complete his medical this week after Chelsea reached an agreement with Brighton for his transfer, as new manager Xabi Alonso looks to add experience and leadership to his squad ahead of the new season.

The former Manchester United and Arsenal forward enjoyed a productive campaign with Brighton last season, scoring 13 Premier League goals and proving his ability to contribute at the highest level.

His arrival is expected to create increased competition among Chelsea’s forwards, with the club currently having several attacking options available.

According to reports from the Daily Mail, Chelsea could look to sell or loan out two or three strikers following Welbeck’s arrival as the club attempts to balance its squad.

The current group of forwards includes Liam Delap, Emmanuel Emegha, Nicolas Jackson, Marc Guiu and João Pedro.

João Pedro is considered a key part of Chelsea’s plans and is not expected to leave, but the futures of some of the other attackers remain uncertain.

Nicolas Jackson’s position could come under scrutiny after Chelsea added more competition in attack, while younger forwards such as Guiu may be considered for a loan move to gain regular first-team experience.

Welbeck’s expected contract, which will reportedly run until 2028, reflects Alonso’s desire to combine emerging talent with experienced players capable of making an immediate impact.

Chelsea have continued reshaping their squad under Alonso, with the manager aiming to build a competitive team capable of challenging domestically and in Europe.
