Caroline Danjuma speaks on divorced women stigma, urging society to stop blaming women for failed marriages and celebrating motherhood

Nollywood actress Caroline Hutchings Danjuma has spoken out against the social stigma often faced by divorced women, saying society frequently makes them feel responsible for the collapse of their marriages.

The actress shared her reflections while marking International Women’s Day, describing the judgement and emotional pressure many divorced women endure after separation.

According to Danjuma, the world often unfairly assigns blame to women, leaving them to shoulder both emotional burdens and public scrutiny following divorce.

She recounted a personal experience in which someone advised her to stop posting photographs of her children on social media to avoid discouraging a potential partner.

The suggestion, she said, was immediately rejected.

“Someone once told me, ‘Don’t post your children. The right man may run away.’ Let the little boy run. I am good,” the actress said.

Danjuma said she remains proud to be the mother of three children, aged 18, 17 and 11, describing them as a divine gift she would never trade for anything.

She also expressed gratitude to her former husband, businessman Musa Danjuma, for maintaining an active role in their upbringing.

“My children are deeply loved and exceptionally cared for by their father in every way, and for that I remain grateful,” she added.

The actress explained that motherhood has profoundly shaped her life, teaching resilience, forgiveness, strength and unconditional love. “Motherhood shaped me into the woman I am today.

Being called a mother is one of the greatest honours of my life,” she said.

Danjuma was previously married to businessman Musa Danjuma, younger brother of former Minister of Defence Theophilus Danjuma. The couple married in 2007 before their divorce in 2016.

Despite the separation, she noted that both parents remain on good terms and continue to co-parent their children, maintaining mutual respect and support.

The actress also explained that while she still uses the surname Danjuma outside social media, she changed it online to avoid drawing her former husband into public controversies.

Concluding her message, Danjuma encouraged women around the world to remain strong and confident. “Motherhood is not my limitation; it is my greatest legacy. Happy International Women’s Day to every woman out there. We are conquerors,” she said.
