Chelsea secure Jesse Derry extension and hand Charlie Holland his first professional contract as the club continues developing young talent

Chelsea Football Club have secured the futures of two promising academy players, with winger Jesse Derry signing a new contract until 2032 and midfielder Charlie Holland agreeing his first professional deal with the club.

The Premier League side announced the agreements on Wednesday as part of its continued commitment to developing young talent from its academy system.

Derry, who has progressed through Chelsea’s youth ranks, made his senior debut during the club’s FA Cup fourth-round tie against Hull City before earning his first Premier League start against Nottingham Forest towards the end of last season.

After extending his stay at Stamford Bridge, the winger described the agreement as a significant moment in his career.

“It’s a dream come true to commit my future to such a big club like Chelsea,” Derry said.

The new contract keeps the 17-year-old at Chelsea until 2032, giving the club further opportunity to develop a player who has already attracted attention with his performances at youth and senior levels.

Chelsea also confirmed that academy midfielder Holland has signed his first professional contract after turning 17.

Holland joined the club at the Under-8 level and progressed through the academy pathway, eventually representing the Under-18 team while still a schoolboy.

The midfielder’s contract marks another step in his development as Chelsea continue to promote players through their youth structure and create pathways into the first team.

The decisions reflect the club’s long-term strategy of investing in emerging talent while maintaining a competitive squad at senior level.

Chelsea have increasingly relied on their academy system in recent years, with several young players making the transition from youth football to the demands of Premier League competition.
