According to Italian publication Calcio Mercato, Conte believes he is ready for a fresh challenge in England and has positioned himself as a potential replacement for Carrick at Old Trafford.

The report comes amid growing concerns over United’s form, with the club reportedly failing to win their last five fixtures under Carrick and sitting 13th in the Premier League table.

Conte, 57, is currently without a club after his contract at Napoli was terminated in June 2026. His availability could make him a potential option for Manchester United if the club decides to make a managerial change.

The Italian tactician is familiar with English football, having previously managed Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.

During his spell at Chelsea, Conte guided the club to the Premier League title in the 2016/17 season. He also won the FA Cup with the London side in 2018.

Conte later took charge of Tottenham, where he worked in the Premier League before leaving the club in March 2023.

Known for his demanding approach and tactical organisation, Conte has managed several major European clubs during his career, including Juventus, Inter Milan and Napoli.

His previous experience in England could be relevant if Manchester United considers appointing a manager with established Premier League knowledge.

Carrick is reportedly facing increasing pressure following United’s failure to secure a victory in their last five matches.

The club’s reported 13th-place position has added to scrutiny of the team’s performances and the manager’s future.

However, the report does not confirm that Manchester United have formally approached Conte or decided to dismiss Carrick.

Any potential managerial change would depend on the club’s assessment of its results, performances and longer-term plans.

Conte’s reported interest in the position does not mean he is certain to become United’s next manager.

While Calcio Mercato reported that the former Chelsea and Tottenham boss was ready for another Premier League challenge, no official appointment or agreement with Manchester United was announced in the report.

For now, attention remains on Carrick’s position and whether United can improve their results in the coming fixtures.
