Deschamps Hails Morocco as France prepare for a World Cup quarter-final clash, praising the African side among the tournament’s best teams

France head coach Didier Deschamps has praised Morocco’s national team, saying the North Africans have earned their place among the strongest sides at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Deschamps made the comments during his pre-match press conference ahead of France’s quarter-final meeting with Morocco on Thursday.

The French manager dismissed any suggestion that Morocco’s progress to the last eight was unexpected, insisting their performances have proven their quality on the global stage.

“The higher you climb the mountain, the greater the challenge becomes,” Deschamps said.

“Morocco aren’t here by accident. They’re among the very best teams in this tournament.”

The two-time World Cup-winning coach also highlighted the attacking approach expected from both teams, describing the encounter as a contest between sides that enjoy possession and creating scoring opportunities.

“It will be a clash between two nations who want the ball, look to attack and score goals,” he added.

Morocco’s impressive campaign has continued to strengthen their reputation as one of Africa’s leading football nations, following their historic run to the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup.

France, meanwhile, enter the quarter-final as one of the tournament favourites, with Deschamps’ side aiming to continue their pursuit of another World Cup title.
