Governor Umo Eno launches Christmas Unplugged 3.0 in Akwa Ibom, promoting tourism, culture, and economic growth for the festive season

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has officially launched Christmas Unplugged 3.0 at the Christmas Village, Unity Park, Udo Udoma Avenue, Uyo, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to developing the state’s tourism and cultural assets.

Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Eno highlighted recent strides in the sector, including the approval of international status for Victor Attah Airport, which he said would further enhance tourism in the state.

“Tourism for us is becoming our middle name. As a State, we have advanced the cause of tourism. From the hills of Itu to the beaches of Ibeno, to the relics of Ikot Abasi, we are developing tourism in Akwa Ibom using the gifts God has given us,” Eno said.

The governor detailed plans for a 32-day celebration involving local government contingents showcasing cultural expressions, traditional attire, music, and dance.

He invited residents and tourists to experience Akwa Ibom’s cuisine, beaches, and hospitality, adding that Ibom Air would facilitate travel.

Governor Eno assured participants of a safe and smooth festival, confirming that adequate security, medical response, and logistics had been arranged for Christmas Unplugged 3.0.

Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Anieti Udofia, praised the governor as a “torch bearer for tourism development,” while Speaker of the House of Assembly, Udeme Otong, emphasised the initiative’s economic benefits and legislative support for tourism in the 2026 budget.

The Head of the Civil Service, Mrs. Elsie Anietie Peters, highlighted the 13th-month salary initiative, noting it would enable workers to participate actively.

Delivery Advisor on Tourism, Sir Charles Udoh, said the festival aligned with Governor Eno’s vision conceived three years ago and was already positively impacting the economy.

Local government leaders, including ALGON Chairman and Uyo Local Government Chairman, Dr. Uwemedimo Udo, expressed confidence in the event, promising full collaboration to ensure its continued success.
