The Enugu State Command, acting on credible intelligence, executed coordinated raids in known criminal hotspots—particularly in Udi, Abakpa, and Nsukka zones—seizing arms and arresting suspects linked to cult activities, public disturbances, and unlawful possession of weapons.

In a major operation on September 6, operatives of the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad, in collaboration with the Neighbourhood Watch Group, stormed a criminal hideout in Ameke Ngwo, Udi LGA.

“On sighting the operatives, a group of suspected criminals fled, abandoning a bag. A search led to the recovery of two locally fabricated firearms: a triple-barrelled pistol and a single-barrelled pistol,” said Police PRO Daniel Ndukwe in a statement.

A separate patrol operation on September 5, around 11:05 p.m., led to the arrest of Peter Kalu, 26, who was caught causing a public disturbance in Abakpa. A search revealed he was in possession of a locally fabricated imitation pistol.

Earlier, on September 3, officers from the Umabor Division rescued and arrested Ugwu Collins, 23, from an angry mob after he allegedly threatened a victim with a loaded, double-barrelled pistol.

“He confessed to being a member of the Black Axe Confraternity,” Ndukwe revealed.

The weapon was found loaded with a live cartridge.

The Commissioner of Police, Bitrus Giwa, praised his team’s swift and decisive actions, and confirmed that all cases are undergoing discreet investigations. The suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of enquiries.
