FAAN cashless payments begin September 29 at Lagos and Abuja airports, allowing only electronic and contactless options for all services

FAAN cashless payments will become mandatory at Nigeria’s major airports starting September 29, 2025, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has announced.

The initiative will kick off at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

The new system covers payments at airport gates, car parks, VIP lounges, and protocol lounges, which will now only accept electronic or contactless methods.

FAAN said the move will make services faster, safer, and more convenient for travellers while reducing cash handling and improving transparency.

To assist passengers, trained staff will be stationed throughout the airports to guide users, explain the system, and answer any questions. Travellers can also obtain a FAAN Go Cashless Card at airport gates in Lagos and Abuja.

FAAN stated that the cashless payment system will eventually be rolled out to other airports across Nigeria in phases, aligning domestic airports with global digital payment standards and boosting operational efficiency.
