FCT police arrest kidnappers in a shocking June 29 raid across Abuja and Kaduna, dismantling deadly camps linked to abductions in Jere and Kajuru

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its fight against violent crime with the arrest of three wanted kidnappers.

The operation, which led to the FCT police arrest kidnappers, was carried out on Sunday, June 29, 2025, and spanned locations in both Abuja and Kaduna State.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, the arrest was made possible through a coordinated intelligence-led effort sanctioned by the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao Adewale.

The operation was led by Assistant Commissioner of Police, Victor O. Godfrey.

The arrested suspects have been identified as Abdulkadir Abubakar of Mpape, Abuja; 25-year-old Mohammed Tasiu Sani from Rigina, Kaduna State; and 27-year-old Suleiman Jibrin of Sabon-Gayan, also in Kaduna State.

The trio are believed to be key operatives of a kidnapping network responsible for several high-profile abductions across Jere, Kajuru and parts of the Federal Capital Territory.

“These men operated deadly camps in the forests of Kachia and Rigina, where victims were kept for prolonged periods,” said Adeh. “Their arrest is a critical milestone in the effort to dismantle kidnapping operations threatening peace and security in the FCT and beyond.”

The FCT police arrest kidnappers effort also led to the recovery of an operational motorcycle, commonly referred to as a “Boko Haram motorcycle,” which was used in several operations.

Adeh confirmed that investigations are still ongoing to recover more weapons and apprehend other members of the group who are currently on the run.

The command noted that the suspects are already assisting officers with intelligence that could further lead to the collapse of their criminal enterprise.

The police believe the dismantling of these camps will significantly reduce the spate of kidnappings reported in recent months, especially in border communities between the FCT and Kaduna State.

“The Command remains resolute in its mission to safeguard lives and property across the FCT,” Adeh added. “This latest operation demonstrates our commitment to intelligence-led policing and the results it can achieve when communities and law enforcement work together.”

Residents across affected areas have welcomed the arrests with relief, praising the Command’s persistence in tackling the menace.

“This gives us hope that something is being done to secure our communities,” said Adamu Bala, a trader in Mpape. “People have lived in fear for too long, especially in places close to the forests.”

The June 29 operation marks a fresh chapter in the FCT’s strategy to clamp down on violent crime. It comes at a time when communities in and around the capital city have expressed concerns over the resurgence of banditry and kidnappings.
