FCT Police confirm four dead in Mabushi crash after assailants hijack vehicle. Investigation underway into the tragic accident

FCT Police have confirmed the death of four individuals in a tragic motor vehicle accident that occurred on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, along the Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway by Mabushi Underbridge, Abuja.

According to a statement by SP Josephine Adeh, the Public Relations Officer of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, preliminary findings revealed that the crash resulted from a violent altercation between the vehicle’s occupants and three assailants.

The incident began when Emeka Ehekweme, the driver of a grey Toyota Highlander (registration ABJ 206 EC), and his wife were accosted by three unidentified individuals near Berger Junction, Utako.

The suspects forcefully entered the vehicle and demanded a “fine,” reportedly in response to the vehicle stopping near the bridge to pick up a passenger.

A struggle ensued when Ehekweme refused to comply. In the chaos, one of the assailants allegedly grabbed the steering wheel, leading to the loss of control. The vehicle struck a parked Mazda and somersaulted into a bridge pillar.

The impact was fatal. Ehekweme, his wife, and two of the assailants died at the scene. The third suspect was transported to the National Hospital, where he is receiving treatment.

The driver of the parked Mazda, Suleman Mohammed, escaped with non-life-threatening injuries.

SP Adeh expressed condolences on behalf of the FCT Police, stating:

“The Command commiserates with the families of the deceased and assures the public of a thorough investigation to ascertain the facts of the matter.”
