Fintiri Wike expulsion rift widens as the Adamawa governor rejects PDP’s decision, urging reconciliation and warning of deeper party crises

Fintiri Wike expulsion disagreements have intensified within the Peoples Democratic Party as Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri publicly distanced himself from the decision to expel Nyesom Wike and other senior members at the ongoing convention in Ibadan.

His swift rebuttal, issued on his social media pages just hours after the announcement, added a dramatic twist to an already tense party atmosphere.

Fintiri, one of the PDP governors present at the convention, said he could not support a move that he believes threatens the party’s cohesion.

He stressed that expelling Wike is neither wise nor strategic and warned that the action risks provoking deeper internal crises for the opposition party.

He said his stand was guided by a commitment to peace and reconciliation, insisting he would not participate in any step that might compound the PDP’s longstanding divisions or push it closer to disintegration.

The governor, a known associate of Wike, reaffirmed his loyalty to the PDP but noted that unity must take precedence over punitive decisions.

He urged party stakeholders to focus on healing existing fractures rather than widening them.

In his words, he stated that the decision was “not in the best interest of the party” and emphasised that political conflicts must be resolved through dialogue rather than escalation.

He pledged to continue working behind the scenes to restore calm and promote progress within the PDP.

The expulsion list, which includes Ayodele Fayose, Samuel Anyanwu, Mao Ohuabunwa, Umar Bature and several others, was moved by former deputy national chairman Bode George.

He accused the affected members of anti-party activities, including sponsoring litigation against the PDP, conducting parallel congresses and canvassing votes for rival parties.

The motion passed unanimously among members present at the convention.

George argued that the constitution of the PDP must be upheld without fear or favour, noting that political parties are voluntary associations and must enforce discipline to survive.

However, Fintiri’s opposing stance introduces a powerful counter-narrative, one that calls for restraint, reconciliation and strategic patience.
