Addressing thousands at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex in Adamasingba, Makinde described the moment as one earned through resilience after years of internal battles.

He welcomed delegates warmly, adding that the convention tagged Ibadan 2025 should serve not only political purposes but also an opportunity for visitors to experience the city’s famous amala and gbegiri.

He said the party had fought a long stretch of battles to arrive at this point, but expressed confidence that the convention would signal a national turnaround.

Adamawa State Governor, Umaru Fintiri, who chairs the National Convention Organising Committee, told delegates that Nigerians were looking to the PDP to rescue the country from its current challenges.

He said the Ibadan meeting would help reposition the party for that responsibility. According to him, the PDP must reinvent itself and confront the fractures that have weakened its loyalty and focus.

He stressed that while some members had left during difficult years, the soul of the party remained intact through those who still believed in its mission.

He appealed for collective support to strengthen the PDP as it charts its next steps.
