Flour Mills of Nigeria leads with impressive strides in food security and agricultural investments, supporting Nigeria’s self-sufficiency goals

Flour Mills of Nigeria has firmly established itself as a vital force driving Nigeria’s food security and agricultural development.

The company has been officially recognised by the Federal Government as the only private firm fully meeting all conditions under the silo concession revitalisation programme.

This achievement highlights Flour Mills of Nigeria’s unwavering commitment to supporting the country’s agenda for food self-sufficiency through sustained and strategic agricultural investments.

Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, praised the company for its outstanding performance, noting that it is the sole private operator among five companies to have fulfilled all obligations in managing the nation’s silo complexes.

The silo concession revitalisation programme is a landmark initiative designed to reduce post-harvest losses and bolster Nigeria’s grain reserves.

Out of 33 silo complexes nationwide, 22 have been leased to private operators.

Flour Mills of Nigeria operates three of these under separate entities, successfully meeting the demanding criteria set by the government.

Since 1978, the company has significantly expanded its agricultural footprint, acquiring a 10,000-hectare farm in Niger State.

Its diversified cultivation includes soybeans, cassava, sugarcane, maize, sorghum, wheat, and palm fruits, complementing substantial investments in grain storage, aggregation, and distribution infrastructure.

Boye Olusanya, Group Managing Director and CEO of Flour Mills of Nigeria, emphasised the company’s vital role as a strategic partner in the nation’s economic growth.

He described the firm as a “strong ally in growth and development,” providing livelihood for millions through both direct and indirect employment opportunities.

Olusanya added that the company’s dedication to sustainability and national heritage sets it apart, ensuring that its operations benefit the country, environment, and people alike.

He reaffirmed Flour Mills of Nigeria’s partnership with the Federal Government under Senator Kyari’s leadership in advancing Nigeria’s food self-sufficiency agenda.

Its focus on backward integration, farmer empowerment, and import substitution continues to drive forward Nigeria’s agro-allied industry.

Founded in 1960 as Nigeria’s first wheat miller, Flour Mills of Nigeria has grown into one of the largest food and agro-allied groups in the country.
