Gary Neville has named Wayne Rooney as Manchester United’s greatest-ever forward, snubbing Cristiano Ronaldo in his assessment

Manchester United legend Gary Neville has named Wayne Rooney as the club’s greatest-ever forward, ahead of former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo.

Neville made the statement during an appearance on Rio Ferdinand’s YouTube show, *Rio Meets*, where he reflected on the quality of strikers he played alongside at Old Trafford.

The former England international said Rooney stood out as the most complete forward he had ever seen at Manchester United, praising his versatility and work rate.

According to him, Rooney possessed a rare blend of technical skill, physical strength and tactical intelligence that made him exceptional in multiple roles on the pitch.

“He [Rooney] is the best Wazza. He was the best forward I ever saw at Manchester United,” Neville said.

He added that Rooney combined attributes from several United greats, making him a unique attacking force during his career at the club.

“He was a mixture of Mark Hughes, Van Nistelrooy, Eric Cantona, Paul Scholes in the half turn, Dwight Yorke, he was a mixture of all the best players that were amazing,” he said.

Neville further highlighted Rooney’s all-round contribution to the team, noting his ability to score, create, defend and drop deep when needed.

“He could do all the things that they could do. He could drop in, he could pass, he could finish, he could head, left-foot, right-foot, could sprint back and defend,” he added.
