Flick announced on Saturday that the 21-year-old Spain national football team international, who suffered a serious knee injury in August, will be included in the matchday squad and could make a brief appearance at Camp Nou.

“He’s available, I’m happy, maybe he’s also available for some minutes, it’s good to have him back and you can see in the training his dynamic,” Flick told reporters.

“I like what I see, but also we have to take care of him.”

The midfielder endured a difficult period on the sidelines after the injury, which followed another knee problem that ruled him out for much of the 2023/24 campaign.

Gavi’s energetic and combative style has often been a driving force in Barcelona’s midfield, and his return provides a timely reinforcement for the league leaders.

“At the moment he’s got the right attitude from what I can see and this is good,” Flick added.

“I love his intention to play, to give everything for this club and this team, and it’s good news that he’s back.”

Barcelona currently hold a four-point lead at the top of the table ahead of rivals Real Madrid, who face Elche CF on Saturday.

Attention will quickly shift to European competition after the Sevilla clash, with Barcelona scheduled to face Newcastle United in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.

Flick also hinted that teenage star Lamine Yamal could be rested during the weekend fixture as the club balances domestic and continental commitments.

“We will see,” Flick said when asked whether the young forward might be given time to recover ahead of the midweek European tie.
