Marseille forward Mason Greenwood backs Nigeria and Morocco to reach the 2025 AFCON final, citing form, pedigree and squad strength

Olympique de Marseille forward Mason Greenwood has predicted that Nigeria and Morocco will contest the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, currently taking place in Morocco.

The 24-year-old made the prediction in a video shared on social media by football influencer Kara, known online as @UTDKara, when asked to name his favourites for the tournament.

Greenwood, who plays in Ligue 1, cited Morocco’s recent pedigree and squad quality before naming Nigeria as the other finalist.

When pressed on which team would lift the trophy, Greenwood suggested a final showdown between both nations rather than choosing a winner.

Nigeria strengthened their credentials on Saturday with a dramatic 3–2 victory over Tunisia at the Complexe Sportif de Fès.

The Super Eagles, three-time African champions, have secured qualification for the Round of 16 with a game to spare, topping Group C with six points from two matches.

The win extended Nigeria’s impressive group-stage record at the Africa Cup of Nations, where they have now won seven of their last eight matches.

The West Africans are seeking to end a 12-year wait for continental success, having last won the title in 2013 under the late Stephen Keshi.

Hosts Morocco, meanwhile, saw their record 19-match winning streak come to an end after a 1–1 draw against Mali in Group A on Friday.

The Atlas Lions still extended their unbeaten run to 22 matches and remain among the tournament favourites.

Morocco, who reached the semi-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, are chasing a second AFCON title, their first since 1976.

They must still secure qualification from Group A before attempting to fulfil the final pairing Greenwood has confidently predicted.
