Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has suggested that the Premier League title race could ultimately be decided by goal difference, as the competition between his side and Arsenal intensifies.

Guardiola’s Take on Title Race Decided by Goal Difference, assessment came ahead of City’s midweek fixture against Burnley, a match that could see them move level on points with Arsenal at the top of the table.

However, Guardiola cautioned against his players becoming overly focused on scoring heavily, stressing that balance and performance should remain the priority as the season reaches its decisive stage.

“Yes, absolutely. It can happen, but you cannot be distracted by scoring a lot of goals,” Guardiola said, warning that an overemphasis on attacking output could leave his side vulnerable defensively.

He added that Premier League opponents are increasingly well organised, particularly in defensive structure, making every fixture a demanding challenge regardless of standings.

Guardiola emphasised that City’s immediate focus must remain on executing their game plan rather than speculating on potential title scenarios.

“So we have to try to go there, do what you have to do to win. It’s the same thing as before Arsenal,” he said, reinforcing the importance of consistency over calculation.
