The Federal Controller of Works in Ogun State, Mr Olayiwola Komolafe, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Saturday, saying the closure became necessary following renewed construction activities ordered by the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi.

According to Komolafe, the minister directed the contractor, Messrs Arab Contractors, to immediately resume work on critical portions of the road to ensure speedy delivery of the project.

The affected areas include the stretch from Ikorodu Roundabout to Sabo Junction in Lagos, as well as the section from Cement to Coca-Cola inward Sagamu.

Komolafe explained that motorists travelling from Ikorodu towards Sagamu would be diverted through the construction corridors under a counterflow traffic arrangement throughout the duration of the work.

He added that the construction exercise would last for three months to allow for the execution of reconstruction works and proper curing of the rigid pavement.

To ease anticipated congestion, officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority are expected to be deployed to manage vehicular movement along the affected routes.

The controller appealed to motorists to cooperate with traffic officers and other law enforcement personnel assigned to maintain order during the construction period.

He also expressed regret over the inconvenience the Ikorodu-Sagamu Road closure might cause commuters and other road users but stressed that the project was necessary to improve the condition and durability of the highway.
