Imo Police assault case sees five suspects arrested over the brutal attack on Ndidiamaka Agu, with one still at large as the Command prepares for arraignment

Imo Police assault case has intensified as the Imo State Police Command prepares to arraign five men accused of violently assaulting a 55-year-old woman, Mrs Ndidiamaka Agu, in Emekuku, Owerri North Local Government Area.

The incident, captured in a viral video, sparked public outrage and prompted immediate action from the authorities.

Police spokesperson DSP Henry Okoye confirmed on Monday in Owerri that the five suspects were arrested following an order issued by the Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, on 3 November 2025.

The commissioner had demanded a swift investigation after watching the shocking footage showing six men repeatedly beating the woman.

Okoye identified the arrested suspects as Onyekachi Njoku, aged 40, Chiazor Osuji, aged 45, Chukwuma Iwuala, aged 46, Eugene Njoku and Njoku Emmanuel, aged 35. All five men are from Uboegbelu in Emekuku, Owerri North.

The video, which circulated widely online, showed the attackers ignoring pleas to stop. They also attempted to assault the woman recording the assault and even tried to break down her door when she sought refuge inside.

Okoye described their conduct as deeply troubling and entirely unacceptable.

Following the commissioner’s directive, operatives of the X-Squad Unit moved quickly and apprehended the suspects. According to Okoye, each of the five men has now made a confessional statement admitting involvement in the assault.

The sixth suspect, identified as Onyedikachi Njoku, remains on the run. Police operatives are intensifying efforts to track him down, with Okoye stating that no stone will be left unturned in the push to bring him to justice.

He confirmed that the arrested suspects will soon be arraigned in court on appropriate criminal charges, marking a powerful step towards accountability.

Commissioner Danjuma condemned the assault in clear terms, insisting that the intimidation of law-abiding citizens who cooperate with the police will never be tolerated.
