John Obi Mikel urges Chelsea to sign Victor Osimhen, highlighting the need for an experienced striker and top goalkeeper for trophy ambitions

Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has urged his former club to sign Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen, describing the Nigeria international as the experienced forward the Blues need.

Obi Mikel made the recommendation in an interview with Sky Sports, highlighting Osimhen’s ability to score goals and impact big matches.

Chelsea spent £90 million last summer to sign Joao Pedro and Liam Delap, but the pair have managed only seven goals in 33 Premier League appearances.

Obi Mikel said Osimhen, who scored 26 goals in the Turkish league last season and has six so far this campaign, would bring the clinical finishing and experience Chelsea require.

“Victor Osimhen. He can stretch the play, he can run behind, he can come short, he can score goals, he can do everything,” Obi Mikel said.

“You need that experienced striker who’s been there, done it, knows how to win big games, knows how to score in big games, knows how to be in the right place at the right time.”

The former Nigerian captain also stressed that Chelsea need to strengthen in goal, citing the need for a top goalkeeper despite the presence of Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen.

“The goalkeeper issue is a must. I just think if you want to win trophies, you need a top, top goalkeeper,” he added.

Osimhen’s proven record in Europe makes him a strong candidate to lead Chelsea’s attacking line, while Mikel’s insight adds weight to the ongoing discussions about the Blues’ transfer priorities.
