The move comes amid preparations for increased social activities, interstate travel, and public gatherings traditionally associated with Christmas and end-of-year festivities.

The police said the arrangements would also cover a planned nationwide protest by the Nigeria Labour Congress scheduled within the same period.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, quoted the Commissioner of Police as saying that adequate personnel had been deployed to strategic locations across Kebbi State to ensure a peaceful celebration.

According to the command, security has been reinforced around worship centres, markets, motor parks, recreational facilities, and major highways to deter criminal activities commonly associated with festive periods.

The police also acknowledged citizens’ constitutional right to peaceful protest, stating that measures had been put in place to prevent any lawful assembly from being hijacked by criminal elements.
