Lagos DJ Marathon Festival to host 100 DJs for 96 hours, livestreamed globally, marking Africa’s biggest and longest beach party event

Lagos is preparing to host what organisers describe as Africa’s biggest and longest beach festival, the Lagos DJ Marathon Festival, with 100 DJs set to perform continuously over 96 hours from December 29, 2025, to January 2, 2026.

The festival aims to break the current global record of 55 hours for continuous DJ performance, creating a non-stop musical experience across three connected beach houses—Kima, Wave, and Athena.

Speaking ahead of the event, Buchi Henry Mbagwu, CEO of Afroxela and convener of the marathon, said the concept was inspired by the global interest in Lagos’ “Detty December” nightlife.

Attendees from Switzerland, Denmark, Norway, France, and Portugal had expressed a desire to experience the city’s vibrant party culture firsthand.

“Merging the spirit of Lagos nightlife with the DJs who power parties worldwide was the inspiration. For 96 straight hours, there will be no stop, no pause, just sound,” Mbagwu said.

The festival will feature hour-long DJ relays, showcasing both renowned and emerging talents, including DJ Bombastic, Jimmy Jatt, DJ Neptune, DJ Humility, and female DJs such as DJ Bella, reflecting a commitment to gender inclusion in the male-dominated industry.

Beyond music, the marathon will offer a multisensory beach experience with food, fashion exhibitions, fitness sessions, yoga, Zumba, gospel mornings, and diverse musical genres including Afrobeats, Amapiano, Afro House, R&B, and hip-hop.

The event will host an estimated 1,000 attendees on-site, while being livestreamed to over 100 countries via platforms such as YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and Twitch.

“Your afternoon set in Lagos is someone’s midnight in Atlanta or Shanghai. The time zones work in our favour,” Mbagwu explained.

Scheduled to span the New Year crossover, the marathon is timed to capitalise on global attention and the festive season, aiming to cement Lagos’ reputation as a leading entertainment capital.

“This will be the biggest, longest, and most diverse party festival in Africa. The energy of the DJs and the power of African sound make this truly special,” Mbagwu said.

Organisers emphasised that preparations are in full swing to ensure a safe and memorable experience for both local and international audiences.
