Lagos completes Lekki–Ajah Expressway rehabilitation ahead of schedule, easing traffic and improving travel time along key corridor

The Lagos State Government has completed the Lekki–Ajah Expressway rehabilitation of a critical 9-kilometre stretch from Chevron to Admiralty Way on the Lagos-bound carriageway, delivering the project 14 days ahead of schedule.

The section, initially projected for completion within 41 days, was delivered in 27 days as part of efforts to ease traffic congestion and improve travel time along the busy corridor.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure, Engr. Olufemi Daramola, disclosed this during an inspection of the project alongside the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, and other officials.

Engr. Olufemi Daramola recalled that the state government had earlier announced plans to rehabilitate the corridor from the Lekki–Ajah Bridge to the Admiralty Way intersection, covering approximately 28 kilometres across both the Lagos-bound and Epe-bound carriageways.

According to Engr. Olufemi Daramola, the government accelerated the project due to the strategic importance of the route and the need to conclude major construction before the onset of the rainy season.

He assured residents that the work met international standards and said installation of road furniture would soon commence to enhance safety and durability.

Engr. Olufemi Daramola added that travel time along the axis has already improved following the completion of the first major phase. Preparations have begun for rehabilitation works on the Epe-bound section of the road.

Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said comprehensive traffic management measures were deployed to minimise disruption during construction.

Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi commended residents and motorists for complying with diversion arrangements, noting that their cooperation enabled contractors to complete the project within record time.

Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi stated that similar traffic plans would be implemented as work progresses to the Epe-bound carriageway, with minor adjustments aimed at further improving traffic flow.

He urged motorists to use designated alternative routes, including the Coastal Road and inner roads, assuring that traffic officers would manage closures and contraflow operations, particularly during peak periods.
