LASTMA arrest Togolese driver after Lagos crash that left a pedestrian critically injured at Adeniji Adele junction on Lagos Island

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority said on Monday that its officers intercepted a Togolese driver after he lost control of a Mazda car, registration number EPE 749 GS, and rammed into a pedestrian crossing the road.

The impact left the victim critically injured with severe bleeding.

Eyewitnesses reported that the driver attempted to flee the scene but was swiftly apprehended by LASTMA personnel and handed over to the Adeniji Adele Police Division for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Emergency responders from the Lagos State Ambulance Service rushed the injured pedestrian to the General Hospital, Odan, Lagos Island, where urgent medical care is being administered.

LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, condemned the reckless speeding that caused the crash, stressing that over-speeding remained one of the most dangerous triggers of preventable accidents in Lagos.

“Motorists must exercise restraint and comply strictly with traffic regulations to safeguard lives and property,” he cautioned.

The incident highlights the continuing risks posed by reckless driving on Lagos roads and the urgent need for greater compliance with safety rules.
