LASUSTECH Founder’s Day Celebration highlights growth, innovation and the university’s expanding role in science education

The Lagos State University of Science and Technology will on Monday, February 2, 2026, host its fourth LASUSTECH Founder’s Day Celebration at the College of Agriculture Main Auditorium, Ikorodu Campus.

The announcement was made by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Mr Lanre Kuye, who said the event, themed Mapping the Future, captures the institution’s evolving role as a blueprint for modern science and technology education in Nigeria.

According to Kuye, the centrepiece of the LASUSTECH Founder’s Day Celebration will be the Founder’s Day Lecture, to be delivered by Professor Adenike Temidayo Oladiji, Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure.

She is expected to speak on the topic Achieving the Objectives of Universities of Science and Technology.

Kuye explained that the celebration will feature interactive sessions, presentations highlighting institutional milestones and a guided tour of major infrastructure projects across the campus.

He noted that the activities are designed to showcase the university’s progress and strengthen engagement within the academic community.

He added that the LASUSTECH Founder’s Day Celebration reflects the institution’s strong commitment to national development through science, technology and innovation, while reinforcing its mission to nurture a forward looking academic environment.

Recalling the university’s origins, Kuye said LASUSTECH was established in 2022 following the conversion of the former Lagos State Polytechnic into a full fledged university.

The move was initiated and signed into law by Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo Olu, as part of efforts to expand access to specialised higher education.

The university, he said, is led by its pioneer Vice Chancellor, Professor Olumuyiwa Odusanya, and began operations with thirty seven approved academic programmes across five colleges.

These include agriculture, engineering technology, environmental design and technology, basic sciences, and applied social sciences.

Kuye disclosed that LASUSTECH has since grown to forty two accredited programmes, reflecting steady expansion and diversification.

He added that the institution received its operating licence from the National Universities Commission in February 2022 and admitted its first students in the 2022 to 2023 academic session.
