Outgoing FUOYE VC, Prof. Abayomi Fasina, urges creativity and strategic innovation to sustain growth and institutional progress

The outgoing Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Oye Ekiti (FUOYE), Prof. Abayomi Fasina, has called on the university to embrace creativity, strategic thinking, and innovative approaches to sustain growth and institutional balance.

Fasina made the remarks on Friday, 6 February 2026, while delivering his Valedictory Lecture titled “FUOYE: My Stewardship” in Oye Ekiti.

He highlighted the university’s progress over his five-year tenure, citing advancements in scholarship, infrastructure, human capacity development, and partnerships.

He emphasised that the 25-Year Strategic Plan (2025–2050) should guide the institution in addressing structural challenges and achieving global competitiveness.

Fasina, who assumed office on 11 February 2021, will complete his tenure on 10 February 2026.

“When I assumed office as VC of FUOYE, I believed that by the grace of God, we would build an institution anchored on integrity, innovation, and excellence,” Fasina said.

He added that all items on his 20-point development agenda had been accomplished to varying degrees, resulting in a “significant transformation” of the university.

Under his leadership, the number of faculties increased from eight to 18, academic programmes rose from 73 to 91, directorates expanded from one to 19, institutes grew from none to five, and departments increased from 67 to 81.

Fasina also noted extensive infrastructural development, describing the campus-wide projects as the “Blue Roof Legacy,” with 160 projects completed over five years.

He urged staff and students to avoid actions that could disrupt academic activities and called for stronger collaboration between the council and management through structured engagement.

Fasina also encouraged the university to strengthen industry linkages, diversify revenue through grants and partnerships, and develop an industrial park model built on public-private-academic collaboration.

The FUOYE Pro-Chancellor and Governing Council Chairman, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba SAN, praised Fasina’s tenure, noting that FUOYE now surpasses many peer institutions in programmes, facilities, and recognition.

He expressed confidence in the incoming Vice Chancellor, Prof. Joshua Ogunwole, to continue the trajectory of growth.

Prof. Adenike Oladiji, Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, who chaired the occasion, described Fasina as “a man of great determination and a great achiever,” highlighting resilience as a key lesson for university administrators.
