Lifetime salary benefits for senior paramilitary officers have been officially approved, marking a landmark shift in welfare and motivation policies within Nigeria’s security sector.

The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced the policy during the 2025 Ministerial Retreat, confirming that officers retiring from the rank of Deputy Controller, Comptroller, or Commandant-General and above will now enjoy lifetime salary benefits.

The move, part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, has been widely described as a powerful boost for morale.

A statement signed by DCF PO Abraham of the Federal Fire Service emphasized the president’s commitment to institutional reform and staff welfare.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo, in his remarks, expressed gratitude for Tinubu’s “unwavering support” while outlining further achievements under the ministry.

He revealed that over 50,000 officers had received long-delayed promotions in the last two years. Going forward, promotions will be tied to performance, signaling a transition to a merit-driven system.

The minister also announced updated training manuals and the construction of a world-class Fire Academy, which he said would rival international institutions like the Arizona Fire Academy.

Addressing broader reforms, Dr. Tunji-Ojo highlighted the ministry’s efforts to support officers’ mental health, while encouraging the Federal Fire Service to embrace private sector partnerships for better infrastructure, modern firefighting technology, and service delivery.
