Liverpool boss Arne Slot and captain Virgil Van Dijk react after a fourth consecutive Premier League defeat, urging fans to stand by the team

Liverpool’s head coach Arne Slot and captain Virgil Van Dijk have appealed to fans for support after the club suffered its fourth consecutive Premier League defeat, losing 3–2 to Brentford on Saturday.

Speaking after the match, Slot acknowledged that opponents have learned how to exploit Liverpool’s current weaknesses.

“The teams have a certain playing style against us, which is a very good strategy to play against us. We have not found an answer yet,” Slot told reporters, as quoted by football journalist Fabrizio Romano.

“Also, it’s not an excuse, but playing so many games away didn’t help,” he added.

The defeat at the Gtech Community Stadium continued a worrying run of form for the defending champions, who have now lost four consecutive league matches — their worst run since the 2019–20 season.

Captain Virgil Van Dijk admitted that the team must take responsibility for its poor performances, including himself.

“Everyone has to look in the mirror, including myself,” the Dutch defender said.

Van Dijk, however, struck a note of optimism, urging supporters to remain loyal during the difficult spell.

“I am sure we will get out of this. But we won’t do it just by talking about it. We will try to improve. The fans who were celebrating with us last season should stand by us now,” he added.

Despite a spirited fightback, Liverpool were outmuscled by a resilient Brentford side, who capitalised on defensive lapses to seal the win.

Liverpool’s next fixture will be a Carabao Cup (EFL Cup) fourth-round tie against Crystal Palace at Anfield on Wednesday — a crucial opportunity for Slot’s men to restore confidence.
